NYT: Echoes of a Vanished Brazil In the Subtle Bossa Nova -When Márcio Faraco left Brazil for Paris in 1992, he brought with him the light-fingered grace of the bossa nova. His early set at the Blue Note on Monday night, as he led a quintet that was four-fifths Brazilian with a French guitarist, whispered through his songs with meticulous syncopations. The music was tinged with nostalgia, both geographic and temporal, for the Brazil he left behind and for an era of Brazilian music before he was born, when subtlety was cherished.
